Shutting Down My Most Visited Website, was a popular one page site I quickly threw together that listed the locations, addresses, and phone numbers of all the Movie Stop stores (they sell used and new movies) because the franchise didn’t have an official website. I never made a penny, and payed for the domain myself. Well, it’s been 3 years now, Movie Stop finally has it’s own official site, and it’s time for the sun to set on my lovely It served its purpose well, got hundreds of thousands of visitors, and now it’s time to let go and move on. Screenshots and eulogy inclosed.

Over its 3 year life it racked up around 100,000 views with spikes of up to 800 visitors a day around the holidays.

Favorite Memories:
I included a feedback text box at the bottom of the site and got hundreds of messages over the years. I’ll never forget the kind words people sent thanking me for putting the site up. I’ll also remember the sometimes awkward complaints like “don’t go to the store in ************* because their employee Tom is rude as hell”.

Lessons Learned:
Despite looking nothing like a search text box, 80% of people who used the feedback feature thought it was a search text area and entered names of movies they were looking for. Even though the submit button specifically said “send feedback”. I received over 100+ feedback messages over the years and the majority of them were “Virginia”, “Michigan” or “Big Mama’s House”.
